Thinking About Mobility Solutions

Levels of Mobility Loss that Trigger an Auto-Mobility Purchase

Mobility loss occurs gradually for many of our clients. The challenge of day-to-day transportation slowly increases and everyone does their best to rise to the challenge. At some point, though, the task becomes more difficult, time consuming and even dangerous. Therefore, we must find alternatives. When is that point? How do we know?

We often refer to these products as “discretionary” because the need for them develops gradually as a person’s mobility changes. For many users of assistive technology there is no absolute requirement as there is in the case of a person who is a wheelchair user and needs assistance getting in and out of their vehicle.

Concerns in Deciding “YES”

Over the years, we have worked with hundreds of customers. One common hesitation we see is a difficulty in “stepping over the line” and committing to the decision of a mobility vehicle purchase. VCI Mobility is here to help consumers address the many valid concerns customers have when making their mobility purchases.

  • Denial: Purchasing Mobility Equipment is Accepting or Giving into the Disability or Mobility LossWe encourage individuals to make the commitment to research their mobility equipment options and make a decision/purchase sooner rather than later. If one waits, they only prolong the amount of time they have to wrestle with a difficult transportation option and they are only keeping themselves from doing what they want or need to do.

If individuals do not have easy access to accessible transportation, it causes them to be inactive, isolated, bored and depressed. Solving a mobility problem now enables an individual to enjoy the benefits of the decision they have made, brings valued activities back into their life and makes everyday situations like going to church, running errands or simply visiting friends and family as easy as possible. We often hear customers say, “I should have done this sooner.” We have never heard a customer say that they did it too soon.

  • Financial: Justifying the Need Over the MoneySpend the money. Whether it is you or a companion you assist that has the loss of mobility, you know that what used to be easy tasks are now situations fraught with risk. So, why trade off personal convenience and safety for the cost of the modifications? If you injure yourself, what are your out- of -pocket costs to recover? How about the value of time you spend feeling bad, unable to enjoy yourself. Options are available to help ease the financial burden, such as financing or purchasing a used vehicle.
  • Confusion: What Decisions are Best for Me? We can definitely help eliminate the confusion. The purchase of a mobility product is a complicated decision with many moving parts, but we can help to assess your situation, clarify your options and then help you make a decision that will dramatically improve your life!
