For the past 9 years, 17-year-old Natalie Pelletier, daughter of Dennis and Alice Pelletier, has been a participant in the Maine Special Olympics Games.
Natalie is a wonderfully sweet, happy young lady who enjoys swimming and being actively involved in her community. Her father, Dennis, has shared his graphic design talents and expertise with VCI Mobility for many years.
In the 2010 Maine Special Olympics Games, Natalie earned a Silver Medal in the 25-meter snowshoe event and a Gold Medal in the 50-meter snowshoe event!
Natalie was one of more than 500 Special Olympians representing over 80 Maine communities who gathered at Sugarloaf USA in Carrabassett Valley for the 2010 Maine Special Olympics Games, held this past January 31 – February 2. Events included speed skating, figure skating, Nordic events, alpine events, downhill, slalom, giant slalom, and snowshoeing.
The Special Olympics began in 1968 after Eunice Kennedy Shriver saw a need for some type of sports program to be developed for people with developmental disabilities. Soldier Field was the site of the first Special Olympics Games and included 1,000 athletes from the United States and Canada. In 1970, the very first Winter Special Olympics was held on Kiwanis ski slope in Gorham, ME.
Says Dennis; “Natalie really loves going to the Maine Special Olympics and really enjoys being with the crowds!”
Our congratulations go to Natalie on her Gold and Silver medals!!
